Inspired by culture's role as the second pillar of the Olympic movement, the Cultural Olympiad is a celebration of contemporary imagination. It spans music, dance, theatre, visual arts, digital and new media arts, film, literature and spectacular outdoor events.
Cultural Olympiad 2010 will offer 60 days of exceptional programming including world premieres, commissioned words and one-of-a-kind events, from January 22 through March 21, 2010. Running in the lead up to and throughout the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, this extraordinary celebration will showcase more than 600 free and ticketed performances and exhibitions.
The Whistler Medals Plaza will feature Cultural Olympiad 2010 programming each night during the Victory Ceremonies. Live entertainment with a selection of Canada's diverse music, arts and culture will transform the stage as we the celebrate athletes.
Cultural Performances will be held daily at the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre (SLCC). Along with the regular songs and drumming in the Great Hall we will be featuring a variety of Squamish, Lil'wat, Canadian and International First Nations performance groups.
The 2010 Cultural Olympiad has brought in groups from Nunavut, Ontario, North Western B.C and New Zealand to perform at the SLCC.
Admission to the performances is included in your donations to the SLCC. Guests are welcome to make additional donations to the performance groups directly to support their culture, communities and performances.
