Much of the operational success of the 2010 Winter Games will depend on the integrated Games transportation plan. The overall objective of this plan is to reduce background traffic by 30 per cent, so that various stakeholder groups get to where they need to go in a timely, safe and organized manner.
VANOC, along with its transportation partners (City of Vancouver, Ministry of Transportation, VISU, City of Richmond, District of West Vancouver, BC Transit, Translink and the RMOW), have worked for a number of years to develop a plan that addresses various challenges present in the Lower Mainland and Sea to Sky Corridor.
During the Games, transportation patterns in Whistler must change given the dramatic reduction of public parking and the close proximity of the venues to the public.
Here's an overview of how you can help meet the challenge of reducing traffic by 30 per cent during the Games:
Residents and visitors will be able to access web-based transportation information and route planning tools through TravelSmart2010.ca. The RMOW's site Whistler2010.com will feed into the broader TravelSmart2010.ca website and be the main portal for Whistler transportation information.
