The Whistler Public Library, the Canadian Paralympic Committee and the Resort Municipality of Whistler are partnering to host Whistler Canada Paralympic House (WCPH) from March 12 - 21. WCPH will be a home-away-from-home for Canadian Paralympic athletes and their families and will also play host to international dignitaries, partners and other guests.
The facility will operate as a library during the day - modified hours as listed below - and as an accredited facility in the evenings. A public community day is planned for March 20 from 9 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. The event will build on the community programming that was at the library during the Olympic Winter Games and will include Para-sport demonstrations and a chance to meet Canadian athletes.
The Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) will be the primary operators of the facility, with RMOW support for specific events. The RMOW will use the facility for specific hosting events and a reception for partners and honoured guests.
"We are so excited that the Whistler Public Library will be the home of the Canadian Paralympic Committee," says Henry Storgaard CPC chief executive officer. "It will provide the Canadian Paralympic Team, their families and friends a place to relax, enjoy the competition and, celebrate as Canada goes for gold. We would like to sincerely thank the library and RMOW, as well as our many house supporters and sponsors for helping us ensure the Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Winter Games really feels like a home Games."
The RMOW and the Canadian Paralympic Committee are hosting a community day at Whistler Canada Paralympic House on Saturday, March 20 from 9 a.m. -11:30 a.m. Try out para -sport demonstrations, have a bite to eat and get your face painted! We're also expecting a special visit from Sumi.
