He's invested a ton of time planning and imagining how things will roll in his store. Using the tools from the Chamber of Commerce, VANOC's website and the Whistler Resident's Guide, he's come up with a number of scenarios for operations, HR, training and scheduling to get everything Games-ready.
Last week's team-building event was perfectly timed to align everyone before it goes off in the Village. It was great to reward key members of his team with some souvenirs and event tickets - what a huge motivator! He has a few surprises set aside to keep the team fired up and working towards their huge goals.
Thankfully, he got on his recruiting strategy early so he was able to hand pick some great seasonal staff and get them trained so they can focus on the guest experience. One of his team members speaks three languages so he'll be invaluable for point-of-purchase translation. This signage will also be helpful for visitors with hearing or visual impairments during the Paralympic Games. He enrolled two new keeners to take on the Chamber's Window Dressing Contest and they blew everyone away with their creativity. His inventory assistant has worked out an off-peak delivery schedule and their major shipments will come between midnight and six - a perfect receiving shift for those who want to be on the mountain as much as possible. One of his team members is splitting his time volunteering with the Village Host program and he'll keep everyone current with daily updates.
He made sure everyone got their ASK ME, I'm a Local buttons, BC Transit schedules and Whistler Resident's Guide and he's bookmarked www.whistler2010.com on the staff computer so they have easy access to the latest updates. He's excited to take on the commuter challenge they've started. Points awarded for skinny skis on the Valley Trail or a burn over and down Peak to Creek - what a story that will be for customers!
The store's flat screens will all have CTV's live daily broadcast so they can celebrate each event. One final touch, their branded tattoos with the maple leaf, arrived at Canada Post today - those will be killer for customers wandering through the busy Whistler Live! sites.
