Whistler Paralympic Park

The Whistler Paralympic Park in the beautiful Callaghan Valley will be buzzing with activity during the 2010 Winter Games.

Located just 20 kilometres south of Whistler, Whistler Paralympic Park will host the biathlon and cross-country skiing events during the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games. The venue is able to host more than 6,000 spectators to cheer on athletes so get your cowbells ready.

Surrounded by snow-capped peaks and pristine forest, Whistler Paralympic Park will take your breath away. As Canada's first Paralympic competition course, the course was specifically created for athletes with physical disabilities. Among the many features is a 3.75-kilometre course for the sit ski classes and a portable 20-metre air and laser rifle biathlon range.

Everyone can also enjoy Whistler Paralympic Park. The park features more than 35-kilometres of recreation and competition trails groomed for classic and skate skiers from beginner to expert. Visitors can also enjoy lit trails for night skiing, snowshoe trails, and access biathlon range Amenities available include cross-country ski rentals - lessons - trail passes - snack foods - and hot and cold drinks.

During the Games/Access

March 1 - April 18, 2010 visitors are encouraged to explore the recreational trails, which will be open 7 days a week from 9 am - 6 pm.

The access to the trails will be from the Callaghan Country staging area at the lower part of the venue; where tickets, ski rentals and lessons can be purchased as usual. The Whistler Paralympic Park Day Lodge and competition trails will be closed due to Games' operation the entire season.

Operations at all the usual Callaghan Valley commercial operators - Canadian Snowmobile Adventure, Blackcomb Snowmobile and Callaghan Country Wilderness Adventure - will continue through the entire winter.  

Transportation to the Venue   

From Whistler

One option is to take the Whistler Paralympic Park Express, which departs from Day Lot #4 in Whistler Village to the venue. Schedule TBA.

Spectators with specific needs will be dropped off at the venue entrance and from there will board the accessible shuttle, which stops approximately 50-75 metres from the spectator plaza of the stadium.

You can also ride-share/carpool to designated spectator parking lots at the base of Whistler Paralympic Park on the Callaghan Valley Road and park for free. Then board the fully accessible spectator shuttles that will take you to Whistler Paralympic Park.

There is no cost to use the shuttle; just show your day of event ticket to board. The shuttle operates for two hours before start of competition and then for two hours after the end of competition.

From Squamish and Vancouver

During the Paralympic Winter Games, spectators can ride-share/carpool to designated spectator parking lots at the base of Whistler Paralympic Park near the Callaghan Valley Road and park for free.

From there, fully accessible spectator shuttles will take you to Whistler Paralympic Park. There is no cost to use the shuttle; just show your day of event ticket to board. The shuttle operates for two hours before start of competition and then for two hours after the end of competition.

To reach the Whistler Paralympic Park lots: from Squamish or Vancouver, take Highway 99 north (Sea to Sky Highway) toward Whistler. Continue past Squamish, Pinecrest Estates and Black Tusk Village.  Turn left at Callaghan Valley Road, the entrance to the venue, and continue until you reach the parking lots.

Spectators also have the option to reach Whistler venues by booking a seat on a commercial motorcoach to Whistler.   

Post Games Use

Whistler Olympic Park will be one of many long-lasting legacies of the 2010 Winter Games. While VANOC is operating the venue through the 2010 Winter Games, Whistler Olympic Park/Whistler Paralympic Park will be operated post-Games under the direction of the Whistler 2010 Sport Legacies, supported by an endowment trust established by the federal and provincial governments as part of their 2010 Winter Games venues investment.

The venue will showcase Nordic sports by hosting international competitions and developing Nordic sport opportunities in the local communities. But don't forget the opportunity for post-Games recreational use of trails. The park is one of the most exciting new places to visit in the winter in Whistler.
