Cheakamus Crossing Open House

The Cheakamus Crossing neighbourhood - one of Whistler's most talked-about Olympic and Paralympic legacies - will house visiting athletes during the 2010 Winter Games and will be converted post-Games into a vibrant, compact, pedestrian-oriented neighbourhood with a mix of housing types, easy access to neighbourhood conveniences and countless indoor and outdoor recreational opportunities. Cheakamus Crossing will be well-serviced by public transit, a car-share program and connected to the Valley Trail system.

As one of only 20 Canadian developments designated as a pilot project for the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design -- Neighbourhood Development (LEED-ND), this new neighbourhood will feature high standards in green neighbourhood design practices and be a model for sustainable living.

Sunday, September 13, 2009, over 400 community members came out for a rare sneak peak of one of Whistler's Olympic and Paralympic legacies for the last time before the Games. The public was able to explore the site through tours of the display homes, athlete residences and the High Performance Centre. Elite athletes, project experts and Whistler mayor and council were on hand to show the community around Whistler's newest neighbourhood.
